What is the difference between details and main idea

Identifying main ideas , and working out the relationship between them and the supporting details, is the basis of reading comprehension.

Identifying the most important character in the story helps us find the main idea. Arguments, evidence, and direct examples are all supporting details that will help you make claims and prove your points.
