She felt extremely self-conscious and awkward. Looking back today, I realize that she was never comfortable with her body. This certainly had an impact on her tendency to be guarded and self-conscious in bed. Kissing is like a less complicated version of sex.

An inexperienced kisser simply lacks confidence, which does not determine quality. Freshman year college, I had a girlfriend who had never had a boyfriend before, which was appropriate for me.

Either way, we were both newbies and had to work our way through our fair share of bumped heads, eye pokes from her glasses and tooth-on-tooth contact, but we were rock stars in no time. Some people for some ungodly reason seem to think that they need to forcibly jam their tongue into your mouth. Imagine how traumatic it must be for a first-time kisser to move in for a gentle embrace before — Wham — their lips are pried open and a tongue starts wildly flailing around in some misguided attempt at intimacy.

Scrap everything that you thought you learned at that teenage summer camp. In my experience, assault by tongue usually means one thing and only one thing: the person is going to be extremely pushy. Convinced that I could fix her poor technique, I made the mistake of getting into a relationship with a tongue terrorist once.

Looking back, when the passion started to fizzle out of our kisses, we should have just cut our losses rather than cling onto what we had.
